Once again I am going through Christian Groups on Facebook and discover someone “Pleading the Blood of Jesus.” I have one suggestion for all of you who are doing so: “Please Stop; it’s not Biblical.”
“Pleading the blood of Jesus” in prayer is a teaching that can be traced to some of the early leaders of the Word of Faith movement. When people speak of “pleading the blood of Jesus in prayer” they are referring to the practice of “claiming” the power of Christ over any and every problem by using the phrase “I plead the blood of Jesus over _______.”
“Pleading the blood of Jesus” has no basis whatsoever in Scripture. No one in the Bible ever “pleads the blood” of Christ. Those who “plead the blood” do so as if there was something magical in those words or as if by using them their prayer is somehow more powerful. This teaching is born from the misguided and heretical view of prayer that prayer is really nothing more than a way of manipulating God to get what we want rather than praying for His will to be done. The whole Word of Faith movement is founded on the false teaching that faith is a force and, if we pray with enough faith, then God guarantees us health, wealth, and happiness and will deliver us from every problem and every situation. In this view, God is simply a way to get what we want instead of being the holy, sovereign, perfect, and righteous Creator that the Bible reveals Him to be.
Those who teach this Word-Faith falsehood have an exalted view of man and our “rights” to plead what we want and get God to respond the way we want. This is in opposition to true biblical faith exemplified by Paul’s life and his approach to suffering and trials. Paul wrote that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). But Word of Faith teaches that, if we suffer or are sick or struggle with sin, it is because we do not have enough faith or that we are not pleading the blood of Jesus to claim what is rightfully ours. But we do not see Paul pleading the blood of Christ or claiming what is “rightfully his” when he was faced with trials and persecution. Instead, we see his unwavering faith in Christ no matter what the situation: “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day” (2 Timothy 1:12).
Paul had “learned in whatever state I am in to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11–13). Paul’s faith was in Christ alone, and he could say with conviction, “The Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever, Amen!” (2 Timothy 4:18).
“Pleading the blood” as it is commonly practiced has more in common with mysticism—reciting a magical formula and hoping it works—than it does with biblical prayer. Saying certain words does not make our prayers magically more powerful. Furthermore, “pleading the blood” of Christ is not needed to defeat Satan. He has already been defeated, and, if we are truly born again, Satan has no power over us other than what God allows for His purpose and glory. Colossians 1:13 makes this perfectly clear: “For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins.”
Rather than “pleading the blood” of Christ for protection or power, Christians should obey the command in James 4:7, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Rather than practicing an unbiblical model of prayer, we are to follow the simple precepts of Scripture—leading a pure life before God, taking captive all our thoughts to avoid giving sin a place, confessing our sins when we fail those first two precepts, and putting on the full armor of God as outlined in Ephesians 6:13–17.
The Bible gives us numerous instructions in victorious living in Christ, and pleading “the blood of Jesus” is not one of them. We have been cleansed by the blood of Christ, and He is our High Priest and mediator who “always lives to make intercession” for us (Hebrews 7:25). As His sheep we are already under His protection; we simply need to live day by day trusting in Him for what He has already promised and provided.
Interesting food for thought.

Actually, nothing. After posting my comment, I clicked the link for your previous post on the Word of Faith movement. That answered my questions, except one. If you know, I seem to recall that Joyce Meyer used to be associated with that movement. Howevrr, in reading some of her recent devotionals I don’t see continuing evidence of that.

Any more, Donald, I am not certain either. However, I listen to her periodically and at times I hear her, directly or indirectly, referring to ““force of faith” and that is, if nothing else, bordering on the Word of Faith Movement. She does claim, however, it can be damaging when people place their faith in faith alone instead of placing their faith in God. I’m not so sure what the distinction is there. It may be a means to disavow any association with the Word of Faith Movement. But I do not know this with any certainty.
I do know she is an ordained minister and has been for over 25 years. As we all know the Bible speaks out again woman being placed in the role of pastor or minister. What the Bible says in regards to this certainly doesn’t impede her from doing so.
I am sorry, Donald, I can’t be more help to you on this subject. I think, however, were you to listen closely to her messages that over time she will reveal much along the lines of your question. In doing so I often hear her say “you have to have faith” but not often finalizes that comment with “in God.” Kind of like having a coin that is stamped “We Trust” without the “IN GOD before it. If you grasp my analogy.
I appreciate your question, Donald. Thank you.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless you and yours always.
Yours in Christ;
Michael
P/S: I have just come across this video of which may shed some light on your question. I must confess I have not listened to it in it’s entirety. You may view it at https://youtu.be/b07ABT1O2D4 It was published in 2013 and since then she might have changed. Although, as I said previously, to me she sounds the same at times.

I understand. As I said previously I enjoy, at times, listening to her “Enjoying Everyday Living” on television. But I would advise anyone to use discernment in these matters. As you read these devotionals (or listen to any message) I would remind you to remember what the Bible tells us. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). In this verse believers are commanded to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” This same command is echoed in other parts of Scripture as well. For example, in 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 we find Paul exhorting the Christians to not “despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.”
These two passages are just a few of the many that warn Christians to test the message that people or spirits proclaim. This is true in all situations but most importantly when a person or spirit is claiming to speak for God. Pay heed to them, Donald, your eternal soul may well be in the balance.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless you and yours always.

Donald;
There is nothing of which you can point to, from the Bible, of which expressly illustrate the teaching “Pleading the Blood of Jesus.” There is not one prophet who has ever prophesized this teaching; certainly Christ never did nor is there any references made to it. If you have one (Bible verse) I’d certainly like seeing it and discussing it thoroughly with you.
As to your claim of my speaking out against the Holy Spirit? I’d certain welcome your pointing to anything of which is posted in altruistico that can support your claims here. Those will be, of course, welcomed also. Never have I, nor ever would I, do such a thing as speaking out against the Holy Spirit or the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I will await your further comments and any Biblical references you may have. Bear in mind I request bible book, chapter and verse of which support your claim.
Thank you, David, for your comments. They are always welcome.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob continue to bless you and yours.

The written Word of God (lagos) KJV says to confess Jesus Christ name as Lord to confirm salvation. If someone is pleading the blood of Jesus Christ then they belong the the Lamb. Demon possessed folk can’t speak in such terms.
I never accused you of anything Michael but rather chimed in on a blog I found interesting. May our Abba YHWH & blessed savior Jesus Christ bless you & your family richly all your days.
You are correct that you will not find pleading the blood in scripture.

Michael, this is not a sound teaching you bring here. The King James Scriptures clearly explain how there is no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood. Jesus is our ultimate covenant between Yahweh God and man. His blood is the new covenant his body broken etc. I plead the blood of Jesus Christ over your whole blog right now in love for you as my brother in Yeshua.

Once again you do not tell me where it is I am in error or passages from the Bible stating your position of where I am preaching an unsound doctrine of Jesus Christ.

Michael,
Telling people to stop pleading the blood of Jesus is an antichrist message. Satan, his angels, demons and everyone in the camp of darkness is terrified of the blood of Jesus Christ. Evil cannot operate freely when the blood is put on the door.
Jesus says this is my blood shed for you which is the new covenant. Torah & Hebrews teaches no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood.
I’m not accusing you of being an antichrist or worker of iniquity. Iron sharpens Iron. This is not a sound teaching you bring here and I’m not going to change my stance.
Pleading the blood of Jesus Christ is scriptural.
Blessings, sir.

The only denominations I know of who teach this “Pleading the Blood of Jesus” are the Pentecostals, Charismatics and Word of Faith Movement. Those who teach the value of pleading the blood of Jesus usually point to the Passover as support of their practice. (It is quite common for Pentecostalism to base its doctrines on Old Testament examples.) Just as the blood of the Paschal lamb protected the Israelites from the angel of death and led to their deliverance from slavery, so the blood of Jesus can protect and deliver Christians today, if they apply, or “plead,” it.
Those who plead the blood of Jesus often do so in the context of seeking victory over demons. Pleading the blood of Jesus is a way of taking up the authority of Christ over the spirit world and announcing to the forces of darkness that they are powerless. Some base this aspect of pleading the blood on Revelation 12:11, “They triumphed over [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
Again, there is no example in the Bible of anyone “pleading the blood,” so in that sense it is not expressly biblical. The phrase the blood of Christ in the New Testament is often used as a metonymy meaning “the death of Christ.” The blood/death of Christ forgives our sin, reconciles us with God, guarantees our inheritance in heaven, etc. Should a Christian be aware of all that the blood/death of Christ has accomplished for us? Absolutely. Should a believer be thankful for the blood/death of Christ? Of course, and expressing that thanks is good. Does a believer need to remind God of the blood/death of Christ every time he prays? Not according to the Bible. Do the words “I plead the blood of Jesus” give our prayers an extra kick? No, that’s more superstition than biblical prayer. Pleading the blood of Christ is not needed to defeat Satan. He has already been defeated, and, if we are born again, Satan has no power over us other than what God allows for His purpose and glory. We have already been “delivered” (past tense) from the power of darkness and “translated” (past tense) into the kingdom of God’s Son (Colossians 1:13). No need to continually plead the blood.
Rather than “pleading the blood” of Christ for protection or power, Christians should obey the command in James 4:7, “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” The Bible gives us numerous instructions in victorious living in Christ, and pleading the blood of Jesus is not one of them. We have been cleansed by the blood of Christ, and now He is our High Priest and mediator who “always lives to make intercession” for us (Hebrews 7:25). As His sheep we are already under His protection; we simply need to live day by day trusting in Him for what He has already promised and provided.
I thank you for your comments, Donald, and; I do hope this will help in your quest for the truth.

We overcome satan by the blood of the Lamb & the word of our testimony. Ahmein.

Greetings and Shalom to you, Donald;
As a Messianic Jews you accept Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ ) as the Messiah; yet retain a Jewish lifestyle. Theology tends to vary widely among Messianic Jews as in your case worshipping and studying with Pentecostals. I too am non-denominational.
I have long been a valued friend ( Patriarch ) of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and my love for the Jewish people is ceaseless. Yet, I must say it troubles me when fellow believers of Yeshua are either taught false doctrine or mislead in the Word of God. As in your case it is troublesome to me that you are receiving false or misleading doctrine and non-biblical teachings from the Pentecostal community. My recommendation to you and others is to find a bible teaching worship center that teaches nothing but truth and the Word of God as taught in bible content.
My friend, I thank you for our conversation on this topic and look forward to others in the future. I also thank you for the blessing bestowed upon me. It too is greatly appreciated.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob continue to bless you and yours.

Michael,
Yes sir I’ve got old & new wine. It brings heavier responsibility but also much deeper anointing.
I am actually with a very powerful spirit & truth church right now. My pastor has 50 years anointing on his head and preaches on things many wouldn’t dare including the new world order, Lucifers fall, storming the gates of hell, and yes…pleading the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
These are old fashioned religious folk and I’m an end times Jewish evangelist but I’ll stay put until Abba YAH moves me.
I ultimately want to study & worship in messianic synagogue. I don’t have a way to get to the nearest Beths.
God Bless You Michael.

My friend;
I am glad for you, your being in a strong spiritual and truth filled worship environment. I need not remind you to question every spirit for truth. To fully know the Word of God and to test all to see if the truth is within them. Even Pontius Pilot asked Christ “what is truth?”
Use the Hebrew Bible, the Tanakh, in your studies, but also use the New Covenant (New Testament), or B’rit Hadasha in your studies and search for truth. Do not be mislead, as many Messianic Jews, concerning the triune God. Messianic Jews vary in their beliefs about the Triune God: Father (HaShem); Son (HaMeshiach); and the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh). Some accept the Trinity while others say God is not, or cannot be, a man (Jesus the Messiah); (lending themselves to the time of Christ on earth and the beliefs of the Pharisees of the day).
If our church is indeed a church where the true Gospel is preached, then you can count on it that the Devil and his angels are pounding at the door, trying to break in. The Devil does not stand idly by when the true Gospel is preached. We need to know that the wolves are at the door. These wolves are not the secular world. They care less whether we preach the true Gospel or not. But the religious world does. To most of them the Gospel that we preach is an offense, it is a threat. It is my job to feed you with the Word of God in such a way that you can defend yourselves against the wiles of the Devil. There is not much time left. That is why I need to warn you for many false Gospels that are the result of ignorance concerning Revelation 22:18-19.
You do not have to be a genius to understand these words. God says: “This is the End. Don’t tamper with it. The Word of God is now complete. No more messages from God are to be expected. This is the last message from God to the last of the Apostles just before he died. No more prophecies from God will be added.”
Paraphrased God says very plainly in Revelation 22:18, “If anyone comes to you claiming that he or she has a new message from God, which has come to that person in a dream, or in a vision, or in an angel visitation, or in a tongue, or even if not a word was spoken but that person saw a comforting light somewhere in the middle of the night, or saw any other supernatural manifestation from God, then know that this person is lying, for God will not give any more Divine revelations or messages; that person is a false prophet, and I have not send them, and he or she deserves to be tormented in the Lake of Fire, so that the smoke of their torment ascends upward forever and ever”.
Therefore if anyone comes to you claiming that he or she has a new message from God, that person has added to the Word of God, the Bible, for the Bible is this One Book that God mentions in Revelation 22:18.
Here, on the last page of the Bible, God gave a last warning that the Bible is now complete; no one should add words to it, and neither will God add any more words to it. We must realize that the Bible portrays the image of God, and whosoever has additional Divine revelations has added to the words of the Bible, and is guilty of tampering with the image of God. Moreover, if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall deny him entrance to the New Jerusalem, for he or she has also tampered with the image of God. For there are many false doctrines of man and you must question all that you hear comparing it with the Word of God.
I too have posted many controversial messages concerning the Word of God. You are welcome, Donald, to visit my library here at altruistico. I believe there is a lot of meaningful things of which will accompany you on your walk with God (Hashem).
I have a feeling one day you will walk into a Messianic Temple (Beth or House of God) and will study there amongst your peers. What a glorious day that shall be. It would give me great pleasure to know when that achievement has been reached, my friend….. Perhaps you will consider sharing that time and experience with me. It would bring me great joy.
I have several posts I want to share with you. First: Have you heard of a man named Amir Tsarfati? He is an Israeli native and teacher of Christian biblical principles from the Jewish perspective [of] Messianic Judaism. Perhaps this video, entitled “Jesus in the Old Testament” will hold great benefit to you.
Also, as an end times Jewish evangelist you may be familiar with a 12th century Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel. Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel made some astonishing and specific predictions about the future of Jerusalem and Israel that came true. Perhaps you would enjoy reading more from him at my post “12th-century rabbi predicted Israel’s future.” I trust it will be informative to you and somehow help you in both your studies and teachings.
I do wish you well, Donald and thank you ever-so-much for our conversations. Please do not be a stranger (smiling).
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob continue to bless you and yours. May Hashem gaze His eyes upon you and find great favor. Amen.
Yours in Christ;
