Will God forgive a murderer?
Many people make the mistake of believing that God forgives “little” sins such as lying, anger, and impure thoughts, but does not forgive “big” sins such as murder and adultery. This is not true. There is no sin too big that God cannot forgive it. When Jesus died on the cross, He died to pay the penalty for all of the sins of the entire world (1 John 2:2). When a person places his faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, all of his sins are forgiven. That includes past, present, and future, big or small. Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins, and once they are forgiven, they are all forgiven (Colossians 1:14; Acts 10:43).
We are all guilty of sin (Romans 3:23) and deserve eternal punishment (Romans 6:23). Jesus died for us, to pay our penalty (Romans 5:8). Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ for salvation is forgiven, no matter what sins he has committed (Romans 6:23; John 3:16). Now, a murderer or adulterer will likely still face serious consequences (legal, relational, etc.) for his evil actions – more so than someone who was “just” a liar. But a murderer’s or adulterer’s sins are completely and permanently forgiven the moment he believes and places his faith in Christ.
It is not the size of the sin that is the determining factor here; it is the size of the atoning sacrifice of Christ. If the shed blood of the sinless Lamb of God is sufficient to cover all the sins of all the millions of people who would ever believe in Him, then there can be no limit to the size or types of sins covered. When He said, “It is finished,” sin was made an end of, full atonement and satisfaction for it were given, complete pardon was obtained, peace was made, and redemption from all sin was achieved. It was sure and certain and complete; nothing needs to be, or could be, added to it. Further, it was done entirely without the help of man, and cannot be undone.
It was sure and certain and complete; nothing needs to be, or could be, added to it – i.e. PERFECT

Just the other day one of my more vocal fans informed me that only a sadistic God would forgive “big” sins such as murder and rape based on nothing more than faith and belief in the atoning work of Jesus. They then informed me that to be in heaven with such as that, would in fact be like Hell for them.
Funny how a person could call such forgiveness sadistic, when in fact it is pure love.

Sounds to me like a person who is more-or-less unforgiving him/herself. The type who punishes one who wrongs him/her and demands wringing the last drop of blood from them as an atonement. And even then not fully forgiving or accepting the person.
It also sounds as though he/she is making a comparison or distinction between degrees or the severity of sins. Thinking God must be sadists to allow a murderer or rapist to enter heaven under the same conditions as a liar or thief; when murder and rape are much more heinous crimes.
A person like this not only judges but stands praying as did the Pharisee who stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. Luke 18:11.
But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man, rather than.the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”… Luke 18:13-14
It would be unbearable (Hell) for the pious to walk around heaven witnessing the rapist and murder freely walking amongst the liars and thieves . Knowing the murderer and rapist paid no greater price for their salvation. Much like the Pharisee who thought himself better than the tax collector.
You are right, Wally. Grace and mercy come from the overwhelming love Christ has for each of us. He is no respecter of man. When meeting with the gentile centurion Cornelius, the apostle Peter explained what God had revealed to him: “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: but in every nation he that fear him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him” (Acts 10:34-35, King James Version). The New King James Version translates “God is no respecter of persons” as “God shows no partiality.”
And this is where you vocal fan is in error with his own self righteousness (if indeed it is) and scripture (God). God doesn’t care if you’re a liar or rapist…. a thief or a murderer… He loves all of the same and treats no one differently. Nor should we…
Thank you Wally for sharing this. I hope my response helps you and ultimately will help them….
Have a joyous and Happy Thanksgiving. May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless you and your family always…
Yours in Christ;
Michael

I will brother.
And…just this thought from our Lord which might apply to your illness
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:”
None of us are ever afflicted alone my friend.
I will definitely pray.

Amen! Either we believe in the blood of the Lamb or we don’t.
We people also have a way trying to rate sin like it’s on a scale or something. Gossip for example, often thought to be a “little sin,” and yet given the time and the circumstances, it can tear apart families, destroy businesses. A bit of facebook gossip and targeted bullying has even lead some people to suicide. So a lie can be somewhat harmless or it can be deadly and set off an avalanche of other sin. I suspect God can see the complexities of sin in ways our human eyes can’t, so for all we know, what we think of as “little,” God sees as huge, as having wrought terrible destruction.

Hello, IB.
I hope you can forgive me for not returning my response earlier – but this year took an extended holiday – and hope by doing so I have not offended anyone by not returning to them sooner.
I agree with all you have said here in your comment. A lie is a lie. Man some how has to justify all of their actions. As in the example of “a little white lie.” that somehow a “white lie” is less sinful than a full fledged “black lie.” As God is no respecter of man (showing partiality) – He is no respecter of sin.
To illustrate my point we need only look to the Bible: God tells us “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9–11)”.
We find a similar passage from Christ which says: “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and ‘all liars’ shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 21:8).
IB I sincerely thank you for taking the time to comment. It is always greatly appreciated.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless and keep you and yours.

Thank you, IB. I must say, however, not all of the extended holiday was for our festive occasion – but in part to some long term ailments I have. I trust you will keep me in your prayers….. It would be greatly appreciated.
You are quite welcome. what I do is in doing for the Lord and in service to Him.. As to the words? The Bible tells us, IB, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21. I choose to give words that springs forth life, joy and peace and those who enjoy them will eat from it’s fruit.
It is always a blessing reading your works as well, Gabriella. You have a down-to-earth approach and home spun spirit in all you write. And from that there is always a blessing to be had. I thank you for your work as well.
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob continue to bless you and your family all the days of your life.
Yours in Christ;
